In the vibrant tapestry of African fashion, Roméo Moukagny’s brand, Romzy, emerges as a beacon of visionary elegance. His latest creation, the “Skin Print” collection, is not merely a line of clothing—it is a profound exploration of diversity and individuality. After three years of meticulous crafting, “this collection offers a timeless ode to the unique beauty inherent in every person.”

The Inspiration Behind “Skin Print”
The genesis of the “Skin Print” collection lies in a life-changing encounter between Roméo and Hibrahima Dia, a man whose vitiligo illuminated a new perspective for the designer. “This transformative meeting sparked Roméo’s deep-seated desire to celebrate the beauty and stories of those often overlooked by society.” Each piece in this collection is a canvas in its own right, “reflecting the rich spectrum of human skin tones and textures, echoing the beauty of the diverse human experience.”

A Bold Declaration of Beauty
In a world often constrained by rigid standards of beauty, Romzy’s “Skin Print” collection stands defiantly apart. “With its vibrant hues of deep blues, vivid yellows, and rich reds, alongside daring animal prints, this collection redefines the very essence of beauty.” It features striking cut-out dresses that make a bold, sculptural statement and voluminous blouses that command attention with their dramatic forms. Bronze accessories, intricately designed, offer a touch of sophistication and depth, enhancing the garments with a sense of understated luxury.

An Artistic and Activist Showcase
The unveiling of “Skin Print” was a celebration where art met activism. The fashion show, hosted at Les Nuages Perdent Leurs Plumes in Parc Hann, was more than a display of clothing—it was a narrative brought to life by models who embodied the spirit of the collection. The following day’s exhibition at ONOMO Hotel, showcasing the works of five visionary artists, “underscored the collection’s core message: embracing our differences and recognizing them as sources of strength.”

Roméo Moukagny: From Gabon to Dakar
Roméo’s journey from a young fashion enthusiast in Gabon to a renowned designer in Dakar mirrors the complexity and richness of his designs. What began with a passion for customizing clothes evolved into a distinguished career following his move to Dakar for university. His studies in Business Administration, with a focus on communication and marketing, and his involvement in Dakar Fashion Week in 2013, set the stage for the birth of Romzy in 2015.

A Personal Tribute in Fashion
“Skin Print” is Roméo’s most personal work, deeply intertwined with his friendship with Hibrahima Dia. “The collection carries an emotional weight, a tribute to Hibrahima who passed away shortly before its debut, standing as a testament to solidarity with those who face societal prejudice, urging us to look beyond appearances and celebrate our unique identities.”

Fashion as a Vehicle for Social Change

Roméo’s “Skin Print” collection fosters a dialogue that is both visually captivating and thought-provoking. “It highlights that true beauty is found in celebrating our differences,” and invites us to delve into themes of identity, acceptance, and self-expression. “Through its powerful narrative, ‘Skin Print’ demonstrates that fashion, at its heart, can be a profound force for social change.”
