Guzangs publishes original reporting, criticism, and primary documentation of African and diaspora fashion, art, and design. These standards govern what we publish and how we publish it.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are made by Guzangs editors. No advertiser, sponsor, partner, or subject of coverage has approval over what we publish, when we publish, or how a piece is framed. Where a financial or institutional relationship is relevant to a story, we disclose it inside the story.
Sourcing
We prefer primary sources: original documents, on-the-record interviews, first-hand reporting, and verifiable archival material. When we rely on a secondary source, we attribute it clearly. We do not present aggregated commentary as original reporting. When a claim cannot be sourced to material we can show or cite, we either qualify it or do not run it. Images are credited to their photographer or rights-holder. We do not use uncredited or AI-generated imagery in editorial pieces.
Verification
Factual claims are verified before publication. Quotes are checked against recordings or contemporaneous notes. Numerical claims are traced to a citable origin. Where verification is incomplete, the piece says so plainly — uncertainty is reported, not concealed.
Identifiers and external links
When we link to identifiers for people, institutions, places, or works, we link to first-party and official sources rather than user-edited reference platforms. This is a deliberate editorial choice: we treat identity-linking as a sourcing decision, not a convenience.
Corrections
If we publish something that is wrong, we correct it. Material corrections are noted at the foot of the piece with the date of the correction and a short description of what changed. We do not silently rewrite published work. Requests for correction can be sent to [email protected].
Right of reply
Before publishing material that makes a specific factual claim about a named person or institution, we offer them the opportunity to respond. Responses received before publication are reflected in the piece. Responses received after publication are added as updates where they bear on accuracy.
Conflicts of interest
Writers and editors disclose to Guzangs any personal, financial, or professional relationship that could be reasonably understood as a conflict with the subject of their reporting. Where a conflict is relevant to readers, it is disclosed inside the piece.
Use of AI and assistive tools
We use research, transcription, and editorial tools — including machine-assisted ones — to support reporting and production. Editorial judgement, sourcing, framing, and final responsibility for what is published remain with named human editors. We do not publish synthetic text, images, or audio as if it were primary reporting.
Funding and ownership
Guzangs is independently operated by Guzangs LLC. Where revenue comes from advertising, sponsorship, syndication, or commissioned work, those relationships are kept distinct from editorial decisions. Branded or sponsored content is labelled as such.
